Overcoming Recruitment Challenges: Our Journey Continues

With much dedication, we made significant improvements to our survey. We meticulously refined the survey questions and eagerly anticipated Rupal's commencement of in-person recruitment for the full survey rollout.

Regrettably, the second day of in-person recruitment did not yield the same success as when Shreya and Sachet were present. Rupal reported that people were unwilling to stop and chat with her, displayed a lack of interest in participating, or even questioned the legitimacy of our survey, suspecting it to be a scam. At the end of a long and disheartening day, Rupal had only managed to recruit a single participant.

Despite this setback, we were determined not to give up. We explored alternative avenues and, in a strategic move, Rupal attempted to gain access to students' WhatsApp Groups through the school of open learning. Unfortunately, the group administrator declined her request, as only officially recognized members were permitted entry. It was becoming evident that Rupal might need some assistance in this challenging recruitment endeavor.

In India, Shreya took the initiative to connect with a survey firm to explore potential collaboration. The firm showed a keen interest in our project. Recognizing the complexities of in-person recruitment on college campuses, they suggested an innovative approach. With a pool of approximately 3000-4000 young, college-educated enumerators, the survey firm proposed sending our online survey to them, post-filtering for eligibility criteria.

We are now gearing up for this next phase and are cautiously optimistic about this new strategy. We hope that this collaborative effort will yield the desired results and lead us closer to our research objectives. Wish us luck as we continue on our survey journey!
